My husband and I were about to engage in a contract with a Manhattan, NY attorney, who was willing to provide his services for asset protection for a Grand Fee of $30,000. My name is Dr. GB and I have practiced since 1982.

In December of 2002, right before the Christmas Holiday, I received a letter from the local Blue Shield requesting about twenty nine of my patient records. So, under this already hectic time I prepared and sent all that they were asking me to do.

Many months passed and I had not heard from them. Then I received a letter from Blue Shield stating I was reinstated as a good member of their organization and all privileges reinstated. I thought the situation was rectified. I then received a letter from them that they wanted to meet with me at my office to review their findings. I then requested they send their information to me, so that I could review it before the meeting. They sent the information and in their files it stated that I was to repay them approximately $75.000.00 for using the wrong codes. I called many times previously for their help in code use and they refused to help me.

I thought this was rather strange, so I called my Medical Malpractice Insurance Company, CBS. C.A.L.M. - Liability Management Plan: Reducing the Cost of Regaining a Doctor's HMO Privileges

This testimonial was initially provided on August 11, 2004, while this highly sensitive matter involving my HMO privileges was still pending. Now that an excellent resolution was obtained, I am updating this testimonial and providing my name as a reference.

Two years ago, I had received a request for 40 patient files from a local HMO in my area. After supplying those files for copying I was told I would be informed by mail about any recommendations or problems encountered. After a few months I had a request for the same files. I called to inquire and was told there was a miscommunication and nothing was known about how things went with the review.

After making some attempts to clarify some other matters with the HMO Company and receiving no response, I assumed I was doing every thing as required. Two years later, I received a notice that my credentials were being revoked. There was no explanation why, no recommendations to change or improve my notes or anything.

After calling and sending a letter, I finally received a letter stating that my notes were reviewed by an independent medical reviewer and I was cited for not following the HMO guidelines and for over-utilization of benefits.

In desperation and not being able to find an attorney who was not associated with this HMO, I called the ICA and was given a name of some doctors who have dealt with problems with insurance companies. I was given information about the Comprehensive Legal Solutions - CLS Legal Plan that is endorsed as a membership benefit by our medical association.

Within a few hours of calling the Lawyer Management Organization (LMO) Conflict Management Attorney, I was on the phone discussing my case and explaining my situation. On the same day, prior to talking with the LMO, I found a local attorney, RT, who could help me, but was not experienced in dealing with cases of this nature. He, therefore, agreed to work in coordination with the LMO.

They were able to support and communicate effectively with my local attorney. This reduced everyone’s time, reduced my expenses and the learning curve of my local attorney.

After the appeals meeting that was set had been adjourned, a meeting for a simple review was set up. If a resolution had not been attained, we would have been ready and prepared for the next step. Thankfully, we were recently notified that the termination decision was reversed and my panel membership was continued.
